Join ASMP-SD and Rich Reid for a 2-part program on time lapse photography!

Digital photography has opened up infinite possibilities to shoot time-lapse video with the simplest DSLR cameras. Today’s media is making great use of time-lapse video and it appears in all forms of advertising and in many documentaries.
Spend an evening listening to Rich Reid dive into this century old art form as he shares his advanced time-lapse photography knowledge plus demonstrate basic post-process workflow. Many years of trial and error mistakes will be examined and solutions presented to improve your time-lapse learning curve. His gear discussion about all the equipment failures, worthwhile gadgets and new software features can save hours of research.
Be prepared for a visual feast of motion as Rich shares some of his time-lapse photography from his global travel working for National Geographic. He will blend his adventure stories with practical time-lapse techniques that can improve your photography.
The Thursday night lecture will compliment a one-day Saturday workshop where you will create your own basic time-lapses from a morning photo session. Space for the Saturday workshop is limited to 12 students only.
Saturday, May 11
5:30-8:30 am • Shoot morning sequences in the field (location TBD)
10:00-12:00 pm • Workflow demos in Lightroom, Bridge, Photoshop, After Effects and Quicktime.
12:00-1:00 pm • Lunch (catered)
1:00-4:00 pm • Create time-lapse video with individuals’ laptop computers.
This workshop is for advanced amateurs to professional photographers. Participants will need: DSLR camera and manual, tripod, extra batteries, external intervalometer, media cards, wide lens 16-35mm (preferred), medium lens 70-200mm (optional), 4 or 8 stop neutral density and polarizer filter.
Laptop computer with at least ONE of the following: Photoshop or Lightroom AND Quicktime or After Effects.
Bring warm clothes, headlamps and stop watch for morning photography session.
Schedule subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen events.
About the Photographer
Award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and instructor Rich Reid has specialized in environmental and explored Alaska's Inside Passage and the Gaviota Coast by bike and kayak. National Geographic Stock successfully represents his stock photography and video for the past decade. Recently, the North America Nature Photography Association presented Rich with a Fellows Award for his professional contribution to nature photography. His award-winning short documentary highlighting California’s watershed conservation has motivated him to continue creating multimedia projects using time-lapse photography to benefit our environment. Rich has shared his photography passion for most of his career operating photo tours in Alaska, teaching Visual Journalism at Brooks Institute in California, and guiding guests on National Geographic Expeditions throughout the globe.
This event will be hosted by Riverdale Studios, 6314 Riverdale St, San Diego CA 92120. Doors will open at 6:30pm with light food and beverages. The program starts promptly at 7pm. Tickets are available via Eventbrite using the button below. ASMP-SD members are $10, students and members of other professional photography organizations (APA, PPSDC) are $15, and the general public is $20.
The special Saturday workshop is limited to 12 people and is priced at $100/person for the full day. (The 3-day workshop is normally $450, so this is a great savings!) Spaces are first-come, first-served and will sell out quickly!
